We’re drilling a well

We are drilling a new well on our property May 16 – 18, 2016 (Mon – Wed). A good part of our front yard will be blocked by the equipment and there will be a bit of cleanup for us after the drilling is complete, so please be patient and understanding as we tend to the mess.

FYI – We and our guests are still getting plenty of water from our existing well, but it’s just a matter of time so we’re doing this proactively.

New website!

Welcome to the new natisasboardinghouse.com! It’s been a long time in the making, and we hope you like it!

Why the new site? Primarily to allow for better interaction with you. The previous site was built with Google Sites, which is hugely limited. It doesn’t allow readers to comment on blog posts or give feedback, which is important to us. There were many other technical reasons for the switch, but the driving force was to created a better, more personal experience for you.

We’d love to hear what you think!

Forgot what the old site looked like? You can still access it here, but it is no longer being maintained.

What gate?

If you’ve boarded with us before, you are now an elite member of the “I remember that dreadful gate!” club. And yes, that means what it sounds like – the precarious 20-foot-wide wood gate that sent us to the chiropractor every time we opened it is a thing of the past!

I (Brian) won’t belabor the issue much, but it was one of my first projects when we moved in. I had never built a gate, so I modelled it after the double-wide 20-foot gate that separated our back yard from our “back-back” yard, which seemed like a good idea. Needless to say, both gates failed miserably, and both have been replaced.

The new gate still has some finishing touches to be made, but it is perfectly functional and secure. The double-wide gate secures closed with heavy duty cane bolts, and the pedestrian gate is key-lockable, and we keep it locked at all times. Our back yard has never been more secure!

Once the final cosmetic touches have been finished, we’ll post pictures, but we are extremely pleased to make this announcement!

New Cooling System

Today we upgraded our cooling system for our outdoor kennels by installing a new misting system. It’s approaching the hottest part of the day, and they’re proving to be much more effective than our previous system. Both kennels are occupied, and the dogs seem very content. But we wanted to see for ourselves, so we went and sat in the kennel ourselves – first with the misters off, then with them on. Huge difference! The summer is always a concern of ours, and we hope this eases your minds as you consider boarding with us.

A note about our previous system

Previously we had sprinklers that would keep the roof of the kennels wet, which in theory would cause plenty of evaporation, and hence cooling. They’d come on at 7-8 minute intervals, and remain on for 45 seconds at a time. They did help, but we found it was hard to properly direct the sprinklers, and the ground got more wet than we wanted. Some dogs like to dig to create a cooler spot to lay down, and that resulted in dirtier-than-desired dogs. And we’re finding the misters are more effective, they use less water, and don’t wet the ground near as much, so it’s a win all around. The sprinklers are still there, but for backup only.

Local business helping rescues

As you peruse our website, you may find mention of Kings River Life online magazine. Sheryl has written several pet-related articles for them, and Brian has written a handful of articles for them, too. If you’re a business owner looking for a place to advertise, KRL will donate 10% of their ad fee to a local animal rescue. We felt that was certainly worth mentioning here!
